A WhatsApp Lead Nurture Journey helps businesses stay connected with leads by sending them messages at regular intervals.
This ensures leads don’t go cold and receive consistent engagement over time.

Business Context

Businesses often generate leads from:
  • Website form submissions
  • Instagram/Facebook Ads (Click-to-WhatsApp)
  • Existing customer databases
Instead of leaving these leads idle, you can automate nurturing:
  • Day 0 → Send a welcome message
  • Day 3 → Follow up with another message
  • Day 7 → Share more details or reminders
This keeps conversations warm until leads are ready to convert.

Prerequisites

Before creating this journey, make sure you’ve completed:
  • Connecting your WhatsApp account
  • Creating WhatsApp message templates
  • Creating and adding contacts to a list
These are required for the automation to work.

Step 1: Create a Journey

  1. Navigate to Journeys in the left sidebar
  2. Click Create Journey
  3. Give your journey a descriptive name (e.g., WhatsApp Lead Nurture)
  4. Choose Blank Journey (even though a WhatsApp Lead Nurture template exists, we’ll build this from scratch for learning)
  5. Click Create to open the Journey Studio

Step 2: Add the Trigger

  1. Click Add Trigger
  2. Select Contact Added to List
  3. Choose the list you want to use (e.g., Leads from Website Form)
Note: If the same contact is added again to the same list, the journey won’t re-trigger for them. Advanced Option:
You can also trigger journeys from Inbound Webhooks (e.g., when a CRM creates a lead or a website form is submitted).

Step 3: Add the First WhatsApp Message

  1. Click the plus (+) button after the trigger
  2. Choose Action → Send Message
  3. In the settings:
    • Select WhatsApp as the channel
    • Use the variable Contact → Phone Number for the recipient
    • Select one of your approved WhatsApp templates
  4. Fill in the template parameters:
    • For media parameters → upload the file or add a public URL
    • For text parameters → either type a static value or use variables (e.g., {{contact.firstname}} to personalize the greeting)

Step 4: Add a Wait Step

  1. After the first message, click plus (+)
  2. Select Wait
  3. Set the wait duration (e.g., 3 days)
  4. (Optional) Choose a specific time of day for the next step to execute

Step 5: Add More Messages

  1. After the wait step, add another Send Message action
  2. Configure it the same way:
    • Select WhatsApp
    • Use the phone number variable
    • Pick a new template (e.g., a follow-up or reminder)
    • Fill in template parameters
  3. Repeat the process: add Wait → then Send Message, until your nurture flow is complete

Step 6: Publish the Journey

  1. Click Publish at the top of the Journey Studio
  2. Once published, the journey is live and will run automatically whenever a new contact enters the list

Step 7: Test the Journey

  1. Go to Contacts → select a contact (you can use your own number for testing)
  2. Add the contact to the list that triggers the journey
  3. Return to the Journey page → Runs tab
    • You’ll see all contacts currently in the journey
    • You can track which step each contact is on (e.g., message sent, waiting period, next message queued)

With this setup, Chatzy AI ensures:
  • Timely follow-ups without manual effort
  • Personalized lead nurturing at scale
  • Improved conversion rates from warm leads
